If I have not answered your last letter it is not that I have forgotten you or the University but as I am going home in January I should like you to know that I have spoken to Yuan a short time ago, when lunching with him, and reminded him of

your visit to him and of the desirability of sending Government students to Hongkong. He said he had not forgotten his promise but explained that the Minister of Education was very loth, in view

of their experience of Japan educated youths to send Government students to centres where contamination by revolutionary elements was probable. Canton Province was hardly a fit place for young men at the moment but as soon as things were quieter he would gladly take advantage of the opportunities offered by the Hongkong University.

I will ask Sir Jom Jordan to bear this in

mind in case further opportunities of reminding Yuan should occur.
